![]() My Childhood Kip and Longlocks and my first Dawn and Angie Purchased Off of Ebay Hi! Welcome to my apartment! It’s been fun to set up and organize, and I hope you enjoy looking around, and reading my Dawn stories! I always loved Dawn as a child and definitely always preferred her over B*rbie -- my mom loved her too because she could buy her for $1 sometimes at the discount store. When Dawn started to disappear, we were so disappointed. We did manage to find some Kip and Longlocks dolls in the late '70s on the clearance table of our little Johnny's Toy Store, and I think my mom bought nearly all of them. After that, though, I've never seen another one for retail sale. When I was about 16, my younger sisters and I dumped out all of the doll boxes we had in the house and sorted through the left-over mess. My sisters gave me all of the Dawn stuff (they got the Strawberry Shortcakes and She-Ra dolls -- I definitely got the better deal). I kept every scrap of Dawn that I could find, but most of our dolls and clothes were pretty beat up. Then in early May, 2001, I discovered ebay, and went crazy! There she was! All over the place and I could have a new one! After getting sniped half a dozen times, I got frustrated and finally bought a nice little Dawn with BIN for $18 (I'm sure the seller was delighted). I never had an Angie doll and always wanted one, so she was the second one I bought. I also bought junk at first, anything cheap, but finally bit the bullet and bought a nice $130 set that really helped my collection a lot. I sold my old little Dawn-sized Mego doll (Wonder Girl) and got over $200 for her -- I was so excited! I think I spent it all on Dawn. My husband thinks I'm crazy for still playing with dolls at age 34. I actually thought I might be crazy too, until I discovered the Dawn Newsgroup. There are other people like me! What is it about this little doll that is so addicting? Most of my friends don't even get it. When I discovered Heidi's Starr Web Page , I again went crazy and couldn't believe I missed seeing these in the stores in the '90s. (I was in college with no money and no children, so that may explain it.) So I have started a small collection of Starrs, but Dawn is still my favorite. Thanks for reading through my Dawn story! I hope you enjoy looking around my site! Please feel free to sign my guestbook when you are through! |
Dawn Collecting Stage That I’m In Today (in teal)
(1) Had Dawn as a child; liked her and casually looked at flea markets and garage sales for her. (2) Found Dawn on ebay; went crazy and bought a bunch of stuff; decided to buy just the dolls I had as a child. (3) Decided that wasn't enough and then wanted one of each doll, plus only outfits that I liked. (4) Started liking more and more outfits; wanted all of the reasonably priced ones; looked longingly at the hard-to-find expensive items with greed; bought a Dawn case for my Dawns. (5) Thought about collecting other stuff like Dawn cars, fashion show, etc. (actually skipped this step); wanted more than one doll each so that I had a place for all of my extra outfits! Plus, now the dolls seem to have a different look to them; not all Angie's are alike; collecting different head molds, etc. (6) Found all of the beautiful re-roots and custom dolls for sale and want to buy some of them; began trying to make or buy custom outfits for my dolls; started collecting a few Dawn clones; started remodeling a place in my home to display my dolls. (7) Started shelling out the big bucks for hard-to-find items and boxed items (may skip this step), determined to purchase any and every thing made for Dawn! (8) Collecting any variation of outfit, boxed and unboxed, and all clones, and wrote a book, newsletter, or maintain a major web page on Dawn! Somehow, may have gotten a PT Glori. (9) Have nearly everything I want except for an item or two, and am moving on to Pippa! (10) Boxed up my Dawns and put collecting on hold for a while so I can get back to real life!!! |
